Carboxytherapy
Carboxytherapy

Carboxytherapy is a cosmetic procedure in which carbon dioxide (CO₂) is injected into the skin in order to improve microcirculation, enhance tissue oxygenation, and stimulate skin regeneration. Carboxytherapy is used to address a wide range of concerns, including age-related skin changes, cellulite, stretch marks, edema, dark circles under the eyes, and even hair loss.

The procedure actively stimulates blood circulation and promotes the elimination of metabolic waste products, which improves skin tone and gives it a healthier, more radiant appearance. Carboxytherapy is considered safe and minimally invasive and can be performed on various areas of the body, including the face, neck, abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and scalp.

How does carboxytherapy work?

Carbon dioxide is injected into the skin using a fine needle. The body perceives the increased concentration of CO₂ as a lack of oxygen and responds by dilating blood vessels and increasing blood flow. This reaction leads to enhanced delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the treated tissues. In addition, the procedure stimulates collagen and elastin synthesis, contributing to skin strengthening and overall improvement in skin quality.

Indications for carboxytherapy

  1. Age-related skin changes. Loss of firmness, fine wrinkles, skin laxity, and decreased elasticity.
  2. Dark circles under the eyes. Improved microcirculation helps reduce pigmentation and puffiness.
  3. Cellulite and stretch marks. Carboxytherapy smooths the skin and reduces the visibility of cellulite and striae.
  4. Hair loss. Improved blood flow in the scalp strengthens hair follicles and stimulates hair growth.
  5. Dull and fatigued skin. CO₂ injections activate metabolic processes, restoring a fresh and radiant appearance.
  6. Post-acne changes and scars. The procedure helps reduce scar visibility and improves skin texture.

How is carboxytherapy performed?

  1. Consultation with a cosmetologist. The physician evaluates the patient’s concerns, discusses expectations, and determines whether carboxytherapy is appropriate, while excluding contraindications.
  2. Skin preparation. The treated area is cleansed and disinfected. Injections are performed with a fine needle, which minimizes discomfort.
  3. Carbon dioxide injection. CO₂ is injected into the target areas. During the procedure, the patient may experience mild tingling, warmth, burning, or a sensation of pressure; these sensations usually resolve quickly.
  4. Completion of the procedure. Temporary redness or mild swelling may occur after injections but typically subsides within a few hours.

Results and duration of effect

  1. When are results visible? Initial improvements may be noticeable after the first session, with smoother and firmer skin. For long-lasting results, a course of 5–10 sessions at intervals of 1–2 weeks is usually recommended.
  2. How long does the effect last? The duration depends on the skin condition and number of treatments. On average, results last from 3 to 6 months, after which maintenance sessions may be performed.

Advantages of carboxytherapy

  1. Safety. Carbon dioxide is naturally eliminated from the body, making the procedure well tolerated.
  2. Minimal downtime. Redness and swelling resolve quickly, allowing an immediate return to daily activities.
  3. Versatility. Carboxytherapy can be used to treat various aesthetic concerns on different body areas.
  4. Multifactorial action. The procedure improves circulation, stimulates collagen production, and supports detoxification.

Possible side effects

  1. Redness and swelling. Mild redness, swelling, or pressure at injection sites, usually resolving within a few hours.
  2. Mild discomfort. Temporary burning or tingling sensations during the procedure.
  3. Bruising. Rarely, small bruises may appear and resolve within a few days.

Post-procedure care

  1. Avoid physical exertion. Refrain from intense physical activity for 24 hours after the procedure.
  2. Avoid aggressive skincare products. Do not use scrubs or chemical peels for several days.
  3. Skin hydration. Apply moisturizing products to support skin recovery.
  4. Sun protection. Use sunscreen to protect the treated areas from ultraviolet exposure.
