Skin (scarification) allergy tests
Skin (scarification) allergy tests

Skin allergy tests, or scratch tests, are used to diagnose allergic diseases. These tests allow you to identify specific allergies to various substances and help doctors prescribe the best treatment.

How are allergy tests performed?

Preparation for tests. Before conducting an allergy test, the patient must undergo a preliminary examination, which includes collecting anamnesis and assessing the general health condition. 2-3 days before the test, it is recommended to stop using antihistamines and other drugs that can affect the results.

The process. During the test, the doctor applies a small amount of the suspected allergen to the patient's skin, usually on the inside of the forearm. Then, using a special tool (scarifier), small punctures or scratches are made in the skin. The test is quick, and the result can be assessed in 15-20 minutes.

After the test. The doctor evaluates the body's reaction to the allergen. The appearance of redness, swelling or itching at the site of application of the substance indicates an allergy. If there is no reaction, then the allergen does not cause allergic reactions in the patient. In some cases, additional tests may be performed for a more accurate diagnosis.

Rehabilitation after the test. Antihistamines may be recommended for the first 1-2 days after the test to reduce possible discomfort. The patient should avoid strong mechanical impact on the test site.
