Cardiorespiratory monitoring
Cardiorespiratory monitoring

Cardiorespiratory monitoring is a method of prolonged assessment of cardiac and respiratory function that allows detection of heart rhythm disturbances, sleep-related breathing disorders, episodes of hypoxia, and cardiovascular pathologies.

When is cardiorespiratory monitoring required?

In patients with complaints of irregular heartbeats, shortness of breath, nocturnal awakenings, fatigue, or snoring. It is used in the diagnosis of sleep apnea, arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and arterial hypertension. The method is applied for monitoring patients with heart failure, as well as after myocardial infarction or stroke. It is also indicated in suspected obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, gas exchange disorders, and chronic lung diseases.

How is the examination performed?

Sensors are placed on the patient to record electrocardiography (ECG), respiratory activity, blood oxygen saturation, and arterial blood pressure. Monitoring is carried out for several hours or up to 24 hours, during sleep or normal daily activity. The data are stored in a portable device and subsequently analyzed by a physician.
