
Robotic surgery is actively entering the daily practice all over the world, and our country is no exception. On February 6, 2018, the first robot-assisted surgery was performed in the Republic of Belarus on the basis of the Republican Clinical Medical Center of the Presidential Affairs Department using the robotic complex Senhance Surgery by Trans Enterix. The surgery was successfully performed on a patient who had her gall bladder removed. The surgery lasted approximately 40 minutes.
The robot-assisted surgery was performed in a specially equipped operating room, where all components of the robotic complex were placed: two manipulators, a video camera in the center, and another manipulator necessary for complex operations, when it is necessary to statically hold the organ for a long time. The surgeon controls the complex, sitting in a special chair. The whole process of surgical intervention is displayed on the monitor in 3D mode, which the doctor sees with the help of 3D glasses. Before starting the operation, the doctor's data is entered into the system, his pupils are scanned, and the chair is adapted to the doctor's position in it. This calibration system allows the surgeon to control the camera during the operation.
It should also be noted that the high level of training in laparoscopic surgery of Belarusian specialists allows them to work on the robotic complex.
The emergence of robot-assisted surgeries makes it possible to reach a new level of surgical interventions. There are significant advantages for both the patient and the operating surgeon. The doctor has precise visual control over the manipulations performed.
For the patient, the advantages are that the incisions in such operations are much smaller than in traditional operations, which reduces the risk of bleeding and the likelihood of infectious complications after surgery, accelerates wound healing, shortens the postoperative period and provides a better cosmetic effect.
Today it has become obvious that the performance of complex operations is significantly facilitated by the use of a surgical robot. The importance of the unique operation performed by Belarusian specialists on the scale of our country is very great.
