Treatment of kidney nephroptosis
Treatment of kidney nephroptosis

Nephroptosis (renal ptosis) is a pathological downward displacement of the kidney relative to its normal anatomical position. This condition may cause pain, impairment of the urinary system, and complications such as hydronephrosis and pyelonephritis. Treatment of nephroptosis is aimed at fixing the kidney in an anatomically correct position and preventing complications.

When is treatment for nephroptosis required?

  • In cases of persistent or recurrent lower back pain that worsens with physical activity.
  • If recurrent urinary tract infections are observed.
  • In the presence of impaired urination, edema, and elevated blood pressure.
  • If nephroptosis causes impaired renal blood circulation or hydronephrosis.
  • In cases of significant kidney displacement (grade II–III).

Methods of treatment for nephroptosis

Conservative treatment (in early stages)

  • Wearing a special orthopedic support bandage.
  • Therapeutic physical exercises to strengthen the abdominal wall muscles.
  • Diet therapy in cases of body weight deficiency.
  • Symptomatic drug therapy (anti-inflammatory agents, antispasmodics).

Surgical treatment (nephropexy)

  • Laparoscopic nephropexy – fixation of the kidney using modern mesh implants or sutures through small incisions.
  • Open nephropexy – a traditional method involving an incision, used in severe forms of nephroptosis.

Main advantages of surgical treatment for nephroptosis in Belarus

  • Restoration of the normal position of the kidney and its function.
  • Elimination of pain and prevention of complications (hydronephrosis, hypertension).
  • Modern laparoscopic techniques ensure minimal tissue trauma.
  • Rapid recovery and reduced risk of recurrence.
  • Improved quality of life for the patient.

The procedure is performed in leading urological clinics in Belarus using advanced diagnostic and surgical methods. Highly qualified specialists apply minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, ensuring safe treatment and rapid patient recovery.
