Tooth nerve removal
Tooth nerve removal

Tooth nerve removal (root canal treatment) is a dental therapeutic procedure in which the inflamed or infected pulp (the neurovascular bundle) is removed from the root canals, followed by thorough cleaning and sealing of the canals. This procedure allows the tooth to be preserved while eliminating the source of pain and infection.

When is tooth nerve removal required?

Treatment is necessary in cases of deep caries, pulpitis, complicated carious lesions, dental trauma, as well as severe, prolonged, or throbbing pain. An indication is also pulp inflammation confirmed by clinical examination and radiographic imaging.

How is the treatment performed?

Before the procedure, diagnostic assessment and anesthesia are carried out. The dentist opens the tooth cavity, removes the affected pulp, cleans and disinfects the root canals using antiseptic solutions. The canals are then filled, and the coronal part of the tooth is restored with a filling or a crown. Treatment may be completed in one or several visits depending on the clinical situation.
