Salivary gland removal (sialoadenectomy)
Salivary gland removal (sialoadenectomy)

Removal of a salivary gland (sialadenectomy) is a surgical procedure performed in cases of inflammatory processes, duct obstruction, tumors, or chronic diseases of the salivary glands. Modern techniques allow the operation to be carried out with minimal tissue trauma and rapid patient recovery.

When is removal of a salivary gland required?

Surgery is indicated in cases of chronic sialadenitis, abscesses, cysts, and tumors of the salivary glands. It is performed when conservative treatment is ineffective and the inflammatory process becomes chronic. The procedure is also required in the presence of salivary duct stones that obstruct normal saliva flow, as well as for removal of benign and malignant neoplasms to prevent complications.

How is the operation performed?

Before surgery, comprehensive diagnostics are carried out, including ultrasound, MRI or CT scans, and biopsy if a tumor is suspected. The procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the location of the gland and the complexity of the case. The surgeon makes a small incision, removes the affected gland, and applies cosmetic sutures. In some cases, a drainage tube is placed to allow fluid outflow.

Main advantages of surgical treatment

Elimination of the source of chronic inflammation and reduction of the risk of infection spread. Complete removal of benign and malignant tumors. Use of modern minimally invasive techniques with a reduced rate of postoperative complications.

Recovery after salivary gland removal

After surgery, temporary swelling and mild pain in the incision area may occur. Patients are prescribed a special diet excluding spicy and acidic foods that may irritate the mucosa. Complete healing usually takes 1–2 weeks, and with proper adherence to medical recommendations, the risk of complications is minimal.

Why choose treatment in Belarus?

Medical centers in Belarus are equipped with modern technology and offer surgical treatment with minimal trauma. Experienced surgeons apply sparing techniques that shorten the rehabilitation period and reduce the risk of complications.
