Synovial fluid analysis
Synovial fluid analysis

Synovial fluid analysis in Belarus is an important diagnostic method used to assess joint conditions in inflammatory, degenerative, infectious, and crystal-induced arthropathies. The test makes it possible to determine the nature of inflammation, detect microorganisms, and evaluate the composition and physical properties of the fluid, which helps clarify the diagnosis and define the optimal treatment strategy.

When is synovial fluid analysis indicated?

  • Joint inflammation accompanied by swelling and limited mobility;
  • Suspicion of septic (infectious) arthritis;
  • Diagnosis of gout and pseudogout;
  • Unexplained joint pain;
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of therapy in chronic inflammatory arthritis;
  • Need for differential diagnosis between inflammatory and non-inflammatory joint disorders.

How is the test performed?

Sample collection

Synovial fluid is obtained by joint aspiration (arthrocentesis). The procedure is performed under sterile conditions and, if necessary, under ultrasound guidance to improve accuracy. The collected sample is placed into sterile containers and sent to the laboratory.

Laboratory analysis

The examination includes several mandatory stages:

  • Macroscopic evaluation (color, clarity, viscosity);
  • Cell count and leukocyte differential;
  • Microscopic examination of the sediment to detect urate or calcium pyrophosphate crystals;
  • Bacteriological testing if infection is suspected;
  • Biochemical analysis to determine the nature and intensity of inflammation.

Based on the results, the physician determines the type of arthritis, the degree of inflammatory activity, and the presence of microbial infection or crystals. The findings are used to select appropriate therapy, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, or metabolic treatment.

Advantages of synovial fluid analysis in Belarus

  • Modern laboratory equipment;
  • High accuracy of microscopic and biochemical methods;
  • Availability of bacteriological testing with antibiotic susceptibility profiling;
  • Possibility of performing joint aspiration under ultrasound guidance;
  • Comprehensive interpretation of results by a rheumatology specialist.

Synovial fluid analysis is performed in leading medical centers in Belarus, where specialists use advanced diagnostic techniques to ensure accurate evaluation of joint diseases.
