Frenuloplasty in children (frenuloplasty)
Frenuloplasty in children (frenuloplasty)

Frenuloplasty of the lip in children is a minor surgical dental procedure aimed at correcting a shortened or improperly attached frenulum of the upper or lower lip. The procedure helps eliminate functional and orthodontic problems and creates conditions for proper development of the dentofacial system.

When is lip frenuloplasty required?

The procedure is indicated in cases of pronounced tension of the frenulum, formation of a gap between the front teeth (diastema), malocclusion, articulation and speech disorders, as well as difficulties in maintaining oral hygiene. The decision to perform frenuloplasty is made after examination by a pediatric dentist, orthodontist, or speech therapist.

How is the procedure performed?

Before the intervention, an examination and assessment of the anatomical features of the frenulum are carried out. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes a minimal amount of time. During the intervention, the length or point of attachment of the frenulum is modified, after which resorbable sutures are placed or laser correction is performed. Recovery is rapid, and the child can return to normal activity within a short period.
