Middle ear implantation with the VIBRANT system
Middle ear implantation with the VIBRANT system

Middle ear implantation with the VIBRANT system is a modern method of hearing restoration for patients with hearing loss. The Vibrant Soundbridge device is an implant that transmits sound vibrations directly to the structures of the middle ear, bypassing external and internal limitations of conventional hearing aids. This technology is suitable for patients for whom traditional hearing aids are ineffective or uncomfortable.

Indications for implantation

  • Sensorineural hearing loss of mild to moderate degree.
  • Conductive or mixed hearing loss.
  • Inability to use conventional hearing aids due to anatomical or medical reasons (for example, chronic ear infections).
  • Patients with preserved cochlear function of the inner ear.

Advantages of the VIBRANT system

  • Natural sound quality: sound vibrations are transmitted directly to the ossicles, improving sound perception.
  • Aesthetic benefit: the system is almost invisible, as most of the implant is placed under the skin.
  • Comfort: no need to wear external hearing aids.
  • Versatility: suitable for various types of hearing loss.

How the procedure is performed

Comprehensive evaluation:

  • Audiometry and tympanometry to assess the degree and type of hearing loss.
  • CT or MRI of the temporal bones to evaluate the anatomy of the middle ear.

Consultation with an audiologist and an otologic surgeon to determine the optimal treatment strategy.

Surgical procedure

  1. Anesthesia. The operation is performed under general anesthesia.
  2. Implant placement. A small incision is made behind the ear to access the middle ear. The Vibrant Soundbridge implant is attached to one of the auditory ossicles (for example, the incus or the stapes).
  3. System connection. The external sound processor communicates with the implant transcutaneously, ensuring sound signal transmission.
  4. Completion. The incision is closed and a sterile dressing is applied.

Rehabilitation after implantation

  1. Early postoperative period: avoid physical activities that may affect the implant and follow medical recommendations for wound care.
  2. Device activation: 4–6 weeks after surgery, the external sound processor is activated and programmed.
  3. Adaptation and fine-tuning: regular follow-up visits with an audiologist to optimize device settings.
  4. Physiotherapy: prescribed if necessary to support healing.

Possible complications

  • Mild discomfort at the implantation site (usually temporary).
  • Rare cases of infection in the surgical area.
  • Need for repeated system adjustments.

Implantation outcomes

  • Significant improvement in hearing and overall quality of life.
  • Better speech perception in noisy environments.
  • Elimination of the need for bulky external hearing aids.

Middle ear implantation with the VIBRANT system is an advanced hearing restoration method that combines high effectiveness with patient comfort. Modern technology provides natural sound perception and helps patients return to an active and fulfilling life.

The procedure is performed in leading clinics in Belarus, where specialists use up-to-date diagnostic and surgical techniques and provide an individualized approach to each patient.
