Bursitis treatment
Bursitis treatment

Bursitis is an inflammatory condition of the synovial bursa, accompanied by pain, swelling, and limited joint mobility. The shoulder, elbow, knee, and hip joints are most commonly affected. The condition may develop as a result of trauma, overuse, infection, or in association with chronic joint diseases.

When is treatment required?

Treatment is necessary when joint pain, swelling, skin redness, increased local temperature, and restricted movement occur. Bursitis may develop acutely or become chronic, with periodic exacerbations and progressive impairment of joint function.

How is bursitis treated?

Treatment of bursitis is individualized and depends on the form and cause of the condition. Therapy may include anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications, physiotherapy, and limitation of stress on the affected joint. In cases of significant fluid accumulation, bursal aspiration is performed followed by the administration of anti-inflammatory agents. In infectious bursitis, antibacterial therapy is prescribed. In chronic cases or when conservative treatment is ineffective, surgical intervention may be considered.
