Baker's Cyst Treatment
Baker's Cyst Treatment

Baker’s cyst (popliteal cyst) is a benign formation in the popliteal region that develops as a result of the accumulation of synovial fluid. It most commonly occurs in association with inflammatory and degenerative diseases of the knee joint and may cause pain, a feeling of tightness, and restricted mobility.

When is treatment of Baker’s cyst required?

Treatment is necessary in cases of pain and discomfort in the knee and popliteal area, a sensation of tension when bending the leg, and an increase in the size of the formation. In some cases, the cyst may compress surrounding tissues and blood vessels, cause swelling of the lower leg, and worsen during physical activity.

How is treatment performed?

The treatment strategy depends on the size of the cyst and its underlying cause. Conservative therapy is applied to manage the primary joint condition, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain. In cases of significant fluid accumulation, cyst aspiration is performed with evacuation of its contents followed by the administration of anti-inflammatory agents. In the event of recurrence or complications, surgical removal of the cyst may be recommended.

Main advantages of Baker’s cyst treatment in Belarus

Comprehensive diagnostics are performed using ultrasound and MRI of the knee joint. Treatment is aimed not only at eliminating the cyst but also at correcting the underlying joint disorder, which reduces the risk of recurrence. Minimally invasive techniques are used to shorten recovery time and restore comfortable joint movement.

Baker’s cyst treatment is available in leading clinics of Belarus, where modern diagnostic methods as well as conservative and surgical treatment options for knee joint disorders are provided.
