Treatment of the retina
Treatment of the retina

The retina is the key structure responsible for light perception and transmission of visual signals to the brain. Retinal diseases can lead to significant visual impairment and even complete blindness, therefore timely diagnosis and treatment are essential.

Symptoms of retinal diseases

  • Blurred or distorted vision, reduced visual clarity.
  • Flashes, floaters, or spots in the field of vision.
  • Loss of certain areas of the visual field.
  • A sensation of a “curtain” or darkening in the eyes.

Main retinal diseases

  • Retinal detachment. A serious condition requiring surgical intervention.
  • Diabetic retinopathy. Damage to retinal blood vessels caused by diabetes mellitus.
  • Macular degeneration. Age-related damage to the central part of the retina.
  • Hemophthalmus. Hemorrhage into the vitreous body.
  • Central retinal vein thrombosis. Circulatory disorder leading to macular edema.

Diagnostic methods

Treatment methods for retinal diseases

  • Intravitreal injections. Administration of medications (anti-VEGF agents, steroids) into the eye for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal edema.
  • Laser coagulation. Strengthening of the retina, control of hemorrhages, and prevention of detachment.
  • Vitrectomy. Surgical removal of the vitreous body in cases of hemophthalmus, macular holes, or retinal detachment.
  • Retinal prosthesis. Applied in severe retinal damage to restore visual function.

Recovery after treatment

  • Temporary physical activity restrictions may be required after laser coagulation.
  • After injections, dynamic monitoring of retinal condition is necessary.
  • Following vitrectomy, vision improves gradually and requires long-term postoperative care.

Advantages of modern retinal treatment methods in Belarus

  • Painless and minimally invasive techniques (injections, laser therapy).
  • Advanced surgical technologies allow vision restoration even in severe cases.
  • Early diagnosis and timely treatment help prevent blindness.

In Belarus, retinal diseases are treated in modern ophthalmology clinics equipped with high-precision laser, surgical, and diagnostic equipment. Specialists apply advanced treatment methods, including injection therapy, laser coagulation, and vitreoretinal surgery, ensuring effective vision preservation.
