Laser treatment of glaucoma

How is the procedure performed?

1. Topical anesthetic eye drops are instilled.
2. Using a special contact lens, the physician directs the laser beam to the target area.
3. Laser energy modifies ocular tissues, improving aqueous outflow or reducing its production.
4. After the procedure, anti-inflammatory eye drops and follow-up examinations are prescribed.

Recovery after laser glaucoma treatment

• The procedure lasts 10–20 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.
• Vision may be slightly blurred for several hours but usually recovers quickly.
• Anti-inflammatory eye drops are typically required for a short period.
• The pressure-lowering effect may develop gradually over several weeks.
