Laser discision
Laser discision

Laser discission is a minimally invasive ophthalmic procedure used to eliminate posterior capsule opacification after cataract surgery. Secondary cataract develops in approximately 20–30% of patients following intraocular lens implantation and is associated with reduced visual acuity, blurred vision, and a foggy sensation before the eyes.

Indications for laser discission

  • Development of secondary cataract after intraocular lens implantation.
  • Progressive decrease in visual acuity in the absence of other ocular pathology.
  • Blurred or hazy vision.
  • Sensation of a veil or film in front of the eyes.

How is the procedure performed?

  1. Diagnostics. The ophthalmologist examines the fundus, measures intraocular pressure, and assesses the degree of posterior capsule opacification.
  2. Preparation. Anesthetic eye drops are instilled, and the pupil is dilated.
  3. Laser posterior capsulotomy. A laser beam creates a small opening in the opacified posterior capsule, restoring the optical axis.
  4. Post-procedure assessment. Anti-inflammatory eye drops are prescribed to prevent inflammation.

Recovery after laser discission

  • The procedure takes 5–10 minutes, and the visual effect is usually noticeable immediately.
  • Mild transient blurring may occur in the first hours after treatment and resolves quickly.
  • No significant lifestyle restrictions are required; vision often improves on the same day.
  • Anti-inflammatory eye drops and a follow-up ophthalmologic examination are recommended.

Advantages of laser discission in Belarus

  • Fast and painless outpatient procedure.
  • Non-surgical treatment of secondary cataract.
  • Immediate improvement in visual acuity.
  • No need for hospitalization.

In Belarus, laser discission is performed in modern ophthalmology clinics equipped with advanced laser systems. The procedure is carried out by experienced ophthalmic surgeons, allowing for rapid and safe restoration of vision.
