Hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO)
Hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a treatment method based on the use of oxygen under increased pressure in a specialized sealed chamber. The procedure stimulates tissue regeneration, improves blood circulation, and enhances oxygen delivery to organs, helping to treat various medical conditions and accelerate recovery.

When is HBOT used?

HBOT is recommended for the following conditions:

  • Cardiovascular diseases (ischemic heart disease, atherosclerosis).
  • Rehabilitation after stroke and myocardial infarction.
  • Diseases of the nervous system (traumatic injuries, neuropathies, consequences of hypoxia).
  • Severe infectious and inflammatory processes.
  • Diabetic foot and complications of diabetes mellitus.
  • Wound healing, burns, and trophic ulcers.
  • Immune system support in chronic diseases.
  • Occupational conditions associated with hypoxia exposure (divers, pilots).

How is the procedure performed?

  1. Specialist consultation. Before starting therapy, a physician evaluates the patient and determines indications for HBOT.
  2. Treatment session. The patient is placed in a hyperbaric chamber, where oxygen is inhaled under a pressure of 1.3–3 atmospheres for 30–60 minutes.
  3. Completion. After the session, patients often report a feeling of increased energy and improved general well-being.

The treatment course usually consists of 5 to 20 sessions, depending on the diagnosis and the patient’s condition.

Advantages of HBOT

  • Accelerated regeneration. Enhances wound healing and tissue recovery.
  • Reduction of hypoxia. Increases tissue oxygenation and improves organ function.
  • Immune system support. Enhances the body’s resistance to infections.
  • Minimal systemic burden. The procedure is safe and suitable for patients with various medical conditions.

Contraindications

  • Pneumothorax (presence of air in the pleural cavity).
  • Acute infectious diseases of the respiratory system.
  • Epilepsy or frequent seizure disorders.
  • Severe cardiac or pulmonary diseases.
  • Progressive oncological diseases.

Post-procedure care

No special recovery measures are required after HBOT. Patients are advised to avoid heavy physical exertion and to follow their physician’s recommendations.

Advantages of undergoing HBOT in Belarus

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in Belarus is performed in specialized medical centers equipped with modern technology. Qualified specialists ensure an individualized approach, procedural safety, and patient comfort. This method is widely used both for treatment and for preventive purposes.
