Gerontology is a science that studies the aging process and ways to slow it down, as well as methods of maintaining the health and quality of life of older people. In Belarus, gerontology is developing both in the framework of scientific research and in clinical practice. Given the growing life expectancy and the increasing proportion of the elderly population, gerontology is becoming an increasingly relevant area of medicine and social policy. In Belarus, there are specialized gerontological departments and centers where older people are provided with medical services aimed at maintaining health and prolonging active longevity. The main focus is on the treatment of chronic diseases, prevention of age-related disorders, and the provision of palliative care.
