Gerontology is a medical specialty that studies the aging process and ways to slow it down, as well as methods of maintaining health and quality of life of older people. In Belarus, gerontology is developing both as a field of scientific research and clinical practice. With increasing life expectancy and a growing proportion of the elderly population, gerontology is becoming an increasingly important area of medicine and social policy. The country has specialized gerontological departments and centers that provide medical care aimed at preserving health and promoting active longevity. Particular attention is given to the treatment of chronic diseases, prevention of age-related conditions, and the provision of palliative care.
