Consultation with a dermatologist
Consultation with a dermatologist

A consultation with a dermatologist is an essential step in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases, as well as disorders of the nails and hair. A dermatologist is involved not only in identifying skin conditions but also in developing individualized treatment and prevention plans.

When should you see a dermatologist?

A dermatology consultation is recommended in the following cases:

  • The appearance of rashes, spots, redness, or itching on the skin.
  • Dryness, flaking, or excessive oiliness of the skin.
  • Hair loss, brittle nails, or changes in nail color or shape.
  • Suspected infectious skin diseases, such as fungal infections, viral papillomas, or herpes.
  • Skin growths such as moles, papillomas, or warts that change in size, color, or shape.
  • Acne, acneiform eruptions, or rosacea.
  • Allergic reactions or contact dermatitis.

How does a dermatology consultation take place?

  1. Medical history taking. The dermatologist asks about symptoms, patient complaints, and the duration of their manifestation.
  2. Visual examination. The condition of the skin, nails, and hair is assessed, and any abnormalities or signs of disease are identified.
  3. Diagnostic procedures. The physician may recommend additional investigations, such as dermoscopy, blood tests, skin scrapings, or allergy testing.
  4. Recommendations and treatment. An individualized treatment plan is developed, which may include medication therapy, physiotherapeutic procedures, and skincare recommendations.
