Proper tooth shape can be achieved through aesthetic restoration using composite materials, in other words, fillings; however, in cases of extensive destruction or when full smile reconstruction is desired, this method has certain disadvantages. All modern composite materials (fillings) still exhibit polymerization shrinkage, and the larger the filling volume, the greater the shrinkage. This manifests as the appearance of unattractive, stained margins around the filling.
