Sanatorium "Plissa"

The health resort complex "Plissa" is located in the Glubokoye district of the Vitebsk region of the Republic of Belarus, next to the ancient settlement of "Plissa".

The first mention of the settlement of this territory, which was part of the ancient Polotsk Principality, dates back to the 10th-11th centuries. In the 13th century, the Polotsk Principality became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

Not far from the lake there is a castle hill, about which there is a legend: In the castle once lived a prince with two daughters - Mnjuta and Lyutica. And not far from the castle lived a fisherman who was in love with Mnjuta. The prince found out about this and was against their love. And after some time the fisherman disappeared. And after him, Mnjuta disappeared. Lyutica went in search of her sister and also disappeared. Since then, they say that the river flowing out of Lake Plissa - Mnjuta and the river flowing into the lake - Lyutica - are two sisters who were never able to meet, because one sister enters the lake, and the other comes out of it. The places here are ancient and important.

Another well-known legend connects our region with ancient Polotsk. On one of the islands of Lake Plissa in the 10th century, Princess Rogneda, the daughter of the Polotsk prince, hid from the persecution of the Novgorod prince Vladimir. Despite the bloody events of those ancient times, Rogneda became his wife - the Kyiv princess, and Rogneda's granddaughter Anna Yaroslavovna became the first queen of France.

The village of Plisa is located on the road from Vilnius to Polotsk, which is also called the Great Hotel or Algerd's Road.

Once upon a time, stone crosses were located along the entire length of this road, one of which still stands in the center of the village. Our ancestors erected such structures at the intersections of trade routes, near large cities and in places of significant historical events. It was believed that they protected the surrounding area from bad people, epidemics and diseases.

Previously, this cross stood directly on the Algerd Way, on the mountain, but during Soviet times it was thrown down from there, after which local people moved it to the village limits.
