Ultrasound of blood vessels (Dopplerography)
Ultrasound of blood vessels (Dopplerography)

Vascular ultrasound with Doppler imaging is a diagnostic method that allows assessment of blood flow in arteries and veins. It is a non-invasive and safe examination that helps detect various vascular diseases such as thrombosis, atherosclerosis, varicose veins, and other circulatory disorders. Doppler imaging is based on the Doppler effect, which makes it possible to measure the speed and direction of blood flow, as well as to identify abnormal narrowing or obstruction of blood vessels.

How is vascular ultrasound (Doppler ultrasound) performed?

The Doppler vascular ultrasound procedure is painless and does not require special preparation. The patient lies on their back while the physician applies a special gel to the skin to improve the transmission of ultrasound waves. Using an ultrasound transducer, the physician examines the vessels for narrowing, blood clots, and other abnormalities.

Doppler ultrasound allows the physician to visualize the vessels and assess blood flow velocity and direction in real time, as well as to identify possible obstacles to circulation. The procedure usually takes 20–30 minutes and does not cause discomfort.

Indications for vascular ultrasound

Vascular ultrasound with Doppler imaging is prescribed in the presence of the following symptoms or conditions:

  • A feeling of heaviness, pain, or swelling in the legs.
  • Chronic fatigue or leg cramps.
  • Cardiovascular disorders such as hypertension or arrhythmia.
  • Pain or swelling in the neck, shoulders, or other areas associated with impaired blood circulation.
  • Suspected thrombosis, atherosclerosis, or varicose veins.
  • Shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, or other symptoms related to insufficient blood supply to organs.

Doppler ultrasound helps identify these conditions at early stages and initiate treatment before serious complications develop.

How to prepare for vascular ultrasound (Doppler ultrasound)?

Vascular ultrasound with Doppler imaging does not require complex preparation. The patient should:

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being examined.
  • Avoid excessive physical activity before the procedure to prevent temporary changes in blood flow.
  • In most cases, maintain normal eating and drinking habits prior to the examination.

Advantages of vascular ultrasound with Doppler imaging

Vascular ultrasound with Doppler imaging offers several clear advantages:

  • Safety. Doppler ultrasound does not use X-rays, making it completely safe for patients, including women and children.
  • Painlessness. The procedure is non-invasive and does not cause pain.
  • Accuracy. Doppler imaging allows precise assessment of blood flow and detection of any vascular abnormalities or circulatory disturbances.
  • Accessibility. Vascular ultrasound with Doppler imaging is available in most medical centers, including leading clinics in Belarus.

Early detection of vascular diseases using Doppler ultrasound helps prevent serious complications and enables effective treatment planning.

Vascular ultrasound with Doppler imaging is available in leading clinics in Belarus, where specialists provide high-quality examinations and individualized treatment recommendations.
