Ultrasound of the uterus
Ultrasound of the uterus

Ultrasound examination of the uterus is a diagnostic imaging method that allows detailed assessment of the uterus, its structure, and functional state. This examination helps detect various conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, tumors, inflammatory processes, and other abnormalities that may affect a woman’s reproductive health.

When is uterine ultrasound indicated?

Uterine ultrasound may be recommended in the following cases:

  • Painful menstruation — to identify possible causes of pain, such as fibroids or endometriosis.
  • Irregular menstrual cycles — including cycle disturbances, delays, or heavy uterine bleeding.
  • Suspected benign uterine tumors.
  • Fertility problems — to detect structural uterine abnormalities that may interfere with conception.
  • Lower abdominal pain — to diagnose inflammatory or infectious uterine conditions.
  • Monitoring the condition of the uterus during pregnancy.

Advantages of uterine ultrasound

  1. Safety — ultrasound does not involve ionizing radiation and is completely safe for health.
  2. Accuracy — allows detection of structural abnormalities such as fibroids, polyps, tumors, and assessment of endometrial thickness and condition.
  3. Painlessness — the procedure is non-invasive and does not cause discomfort.
  4. Accessibility — widely available in medical facilities and provides rapid results.

How is uterine ultrasound performed?

Uterine ultrasound can be performed transabdominally (through the anterior abdominal wall) or transvaginally, depending on the clinical indication. For transvaginal ultrasound, the patient lies in a supine position while a specialized probe is gently inserted into the vagina, allowing more detailed visualization. For transabdominal ultrasound, a special gel is applied to the abdominal skin, and the physician moves the transducer across the lower abdomen to examine the uterus.

Uterine ultrasound is available in leading clinics in Belarus, where experienced specialists provide accurate diagnostics and recommend effective treatment strategies.
