When is liver ultrasound indicated?
Liver ultrasound may be recommended in the following cases:

How is liver ultrasound performed?
During the examination, the patient lies on their back or side. A special gel is applied to the abdominal area to improve contact between the ultrasound transducer and the skin. The physician moves the transducer over the right upper abdomen to examine the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts. The procedure usually lasts 15–20 minutes and does not cause discomfort.
Liver ultrasound may be supplemented with Doppler imaging to assess hepatic blood flow and identify possible vascular abnormalities.
