Cervicometry
Cervicometry

Cervicometry is an ultrasound examination aimed at measuring the length of the cervix and assessing its condition during pregnancy. The method is used for early detection of the risk of preterm birth and for evaluating cervical competence at different stages of gestation.

When is cervicometry required?

The examination is performed during pregnancy to assess the risk of cervical shortening, in women with a history of preterm birth, after surgical procedures on the cervix, and in cases of multiple pregnancy. Cervicometry may be prescribed as a routine screening test or based on clinical indications, such as the presence of symptoms or suspicion of cervical insufficiency.

How is the examination performed?

Cervicometry is carried out using ultrasound, most commonly with a transvaginal probe, which provides the highest measurement accuracy. The procedure is painless, takes a short amount of time, and does not require special preparation. The obtained measurements are evaluated by a physician taking into account the gestational age and the clinical context.
