Contrast urography
Contrast urography

Contrast urography is a radiographic diagnostic method of the urinary system that allows detailed visualization of the kidneys, ureters, and urinary bladder. The examination is performed using a contrast agent administered intravenously, which helps assess the patency of the urinary tract.

When is contrast urography required?

In cases of lower back pain, recurrent urinary tract infections, hematuria (blood in the urine), and suspected urolithiasis. For the diagnosis of hydronephrosis, tumors of the kidneys and ureters, and congenital anomalies of the urinary system. For assessment of renal function in cases of impaired kidney performance, and for detection of adhesions, scarring, and ureteral strictures.

How is the examination performed?

A contrast agent is administered intravenously, followed by a series of X-ray images taken at different time points to track its passage through the kidneys, ureters, and urinary bladder. The procedure lasts 30–60 minutes, and preliminary preparation (bowel cleansing) may be required.

Main advantages of contrast urography in Belarus

High diagnostic accuracy for diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract. The ability to detect structural abnormalities, stones, and tumors at early stages. Minimal invasiveness, with no need for endoscopic intervention.

Belarusian medical centers are equipped with modern radiographic systems that provide detailed diagnostics of the urinary system. Experienced specialists perform the examination with high accuracy and patient safety.
