Angiography
Angiography

Angiography is a radiographic contrast imaging method used to visualize arteries, veins, and capillaries, identify pathological changes, and assess blood flow. The procedure is applied for the diagnosis of vascular diseases of the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, and other organs.

When is angiography required?

In cases of suspected aneurysms, thrombosis, vascular stenosis, and ischemia. For the diagnosis of stroke, hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformations, and vascular tumors. For assessment of blood supply prior to surgical intervention, during preparation for stenting and bypass surgery. In cardiology, for the detection of coronary artery disease and pathologies of the coronary arteries.

Types of angiography

  • CT angiography – performed using a computed tomography scanner with the administration of a contrast agent.
  • MR angiography – carried out using magnetic resonance imaging without the use of ionizing radiation.
  • Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) – a high-precision method used in interventional radiology.
  • Coronary angiography – angiographic examination of the coronary vessels, used in coronary artery disease.

How is the examination performed?

A contrast agent is administered intravenously, followed by layer-by-layer imaging of the vessels using CT, MRI, or X-ray techniques. In some cases, angiographic examination is performed via a catheter inserted into the femoral or radial artery. The procedure takes 30–60 minutes and requires minimal preparation.

Main advantages of angiography in Belarus

High diagnostic accuracy for vascular diseases. The ability to detect pathologies at early stages, including aneurysms and stenoses. Rapid performance of the procedure and minimal invasiveness.

Belarusian medical centers are equipped with modern angiographic systems, enabling highly accurate diagnosis of vascular diseases. Experienced specialists ensure safe performance of the procedure and precise interpretation of results.
