When is MRI of the shoulder joint required?

The study is indicated after injuries and sprains, when tendon or ligament tears are suspected. MRI is recommended in cases of chronic pain, limited range of motion, clicking sounds, or swelling in the shoulder area. It is used for diagnosing osteoarthritis, arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, and rotator cuff tears, as well as for detecting tumors, cysts, and inflammatory processes.

How is the examination performed?

The patient is positioned inside a magnetic resonance imaging scanner, where the shoulder joint is examined. If necessary, a contrast agent may be administered to improve visualization of inflammatory or neoplastic processes. The procedure lasts approximately 20–40 minutes, is painless, and does not involve radiation exposure.
