MRI under anesthesia
MRI under anesthesia

MRI under anesthesia is a diagnostic examination performed with the use of general anesthesia for patients who are unable to remain still for a prolonged period of time. This method is used in children, patients with severe pain, claustrophobia, or neurological and anxiety-related disorders.

When is MRI under anesthesia required?

In young children who are unable to remain motionless. In patients with pronounced claustrophobia, anxiety disorders, or panic attacks. In cases of severe pain that prevents maintaining immobility. In patients with neurological conditions such as epilepsy or Parkinson’s disease, as well as with uncontrolled movements.

How is the examination performed?

Before the procedure, the patient undergoes a consultation with an anesthesiologist. Anesthesia is administered (most commonly intravenous), after which MRI of the required organ or body system is performed. After the examination, the patient wakes up and remains under medical supervision until full recovery. The procedure lasts approximately 30–60 minutes, and the recovery period takes about 1–2 hours.
