MRI of the lungs

MRI of the lungs is a high-precision and safe diagnostic method that allows visualization of lung parenchyma, bronchi, blood vessels, and pleura. The technique is used to detect inflammatory, oncological, and vascular diseases without the use of ionizing radiation.

When is lung MRI required?

The examination is indicated in cases of persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, and suspected tumors. It is used for diagnosing inflammatory processes such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, and pleuritis. MRI of the lungs is also applied to detect pulmonary embolism, vascular anomalies, fibrotic changes, as well as allergic and autoimmune diseases affecting the respiratory system.

How is the examination performed?

The patient is positioned inside a magnetic resonance scanner, where imaging of the lungs is performed. If necessary, a contrast agent may be administered to enhance visualization of blood vessels and neoplastic lesions. The procedure lasts approximately 20–40 minutes, is painless, and does not involve radiation exposure.
