When is MRI of the knee joint required?

The examination is indicated in cases of injuries, sprains, suspected ligament tears, and meniscal damage. It is performed when patients experience pain, swelling, or limited joint mobility. MRI is also used to diagnose osteoarthritis, arthritis, bursitis, synovitis, and gout, as well as for preoperative assessment and postoperative follow-up.

How is the examination performed?

The patient is positioned inside a magnetic resonance scanner, where imaging of the knee joint is performed. If necessary, a contrast agent may be used for more detailed visualization of inflammatory or tumor-related processes. The procedure takes approximately 20–40 minutes, is painless, and does not involve radiation exposure.
