MRI of the lower extremities
MRI of the lower extremities

MRI of the lower extremities is a highly accurate diagnostic method that allows detailed visualization of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, blood vessels, and soft tissues of the legs. The method is used to detect traumatic, inflammatory, degenerative, and vascular pathologies.

When is MRI of the lower extremities required?

The examination is indicated in cases of trauma, suspected fractures, bone cracks, ligament sprains, as well as chronic pain, swelling, and limited joint mobility. MRI is used for the diagnosis of osteoarthritis, arthritis, osteomyelitis, myositis, and other musculoskeletal disorders. It is also recommended for vascular pathologies such as thrombosis, varicose veins, and atherosclerosis. In oncology, MRI is applied to detect tumors of bones and soft tissues, as well as metastatic lesions.

How is the examination performed?

The patient is positioned inside a magnetic resonance imaging scanner, where the required part of the lower extremities is examined (thigh, lower leg, foot, knee joint, or hip joint). In some cases, a contrast agent is administered to provide more detailed visualization of blood vessels and tumors. The procedure lasts approximately 20–40 minutes, is painless, and does not involve radiation exposure.

Main advantages of MRI of the lower extremities in Belarus

High-resolution visualization of both bone and soft-tissue structures. Safety due to the absence of ionizing (X-ray) radiation. The ability to detect pathological changes at early stages and to accurately diagnose inflammatory, degenerative, and vascular diseases.

Medical centers in Belarus are equipped with modern MRI systems that ensure highly accurate diagnostics of lower limb conditions. Experienced specialists perform the examinations and provide precise interpretation of the results.
