MRI angiography of cerebral vessels is a non-invasive diagnostic method that allows detailed examination of the arteries and veins of the brain without the use of X-ray radiation. The study is used to detect aneurysms, stenoses, thromboses, vascular malformations, and to assess cerebral blood flow.
When is MRI angiography required?
The examination is indicated in cases of headaches, dizziness, tinnitus, and fainting. It is performed when cerebral circulation disorders are suspected, including suspected stroke or transient ischemic attacks. MRI angiography is also used to diagnose vascular aneurysms, malformations, and stenoses, as well as in patients with an increased risk of thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, or in the presence of brain tumors.
How is the examination performed?
The patient is positioned inside a magnetic resonance scanner, where imaging of the cerebral vessels is carried out. In some cases, a contrast agent is administered to improve visualization. The procedure takes approximately 20–40 minutes, does not involve radiation exposure, and does not require invasive intervention.
