Spirometry
Spirometry

Spirometry is a diagnostic method for assessing lung function that allows measurement of the volume and flow rate of air during breathing. The examination helps detect respiratory diseases, assess their severity, and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.

When is spirometry required?

In patients with complaints of shortness of breath, chronic cough, or chest tightness. It is used in the diagnosis of bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, and emphysema. The method is applied to monitor respiratory function in smokers, athletes, and patients with pulmonary diseases. It is also used in preoperative assessment and in monitoring the treatment of respiratory pathologies.

How is the examination performed?

The patient performs several inhalations and exhalations into a special device (spirometer), which records the volume and flow rate of air. In some cases, the test is performed with a bronchodilator (a medication test to assess the reversibility of bronchial obstruction). The examination takes 10–15 minutes and does not require special preparation.

Main advantages of spirometry in Belarus

High diagnostic accuracy for respiratory system diseases. The possibility of detecting ventilation disorders at early stages. Safety, absence of invasive intervention, and rapid availability of results.

Belarusian medical centers are equipped with modern digital spirometers that ensure accurate assessment of lung function. Experienced specialists analyze the data and provide treatment recommendations.
