Rheovasography is a non-invasive diagnostic method used to assess blood circulation in the vessels of the upper and lower extremities. The examination allows detection of blood flow disorders, evaluation of the degree of arterial and venous involvement, and assessment of vascular tone.
When is rheovasography required?
In cases of sensations of coldness, numbness, cramps in the arms and legs, swelling, and pain during walking. It is used in the diagnosis of obliterating atherosclerosis, varicose vein disease, venous insufficiency, and thrombosis. The method helps identify angiopathy in diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension. It is also applied in preparation for vascular surgery and in assessing the effectiveness of treatment of vascular diseases.
How is the examination performed?
Sensors are placed on the patient’s limbs to record changes in vascular tone and blood flow. The procedure lasts 20–30 minutes and is performed at rest without special preparation.
