Bicycle ergometry (exercise stress testing) is a diagnostic method used to assess the function of the cardiovascular system under physical нагрузка. The test allows evaluation of cardiac adaptation to exercise, detection of latent myocardial ischemia, arrhythmias, and determination of physical endurance.
When is bicycle ergometry required?
In patients with complaints of shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, or increased fatigue. It is used for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmias, and arterial hypertension. The test is applied to assess the effectiveness of treatment of cardiovascular diseases and during rehabilitation after myocardial infarction. It is also performed before engaging in sports activities, as part of cardiac rehabilitation programs, and during occupational medical examinations.
How is the examination performed?
The patient sits on a stationary bicycle (cycle ergometer), while sensors continuously record cardiac parameters. During the test, the physician gradually increases the workload and monitors the body’s physiological response. Heart activity is recorded using electrocardiography (ECG), and blood pressure is measured with a sphygmomanometer. The procedure lasts 10–30 minutes, followed by analysis and interpretation of the recorded data.
Main advantages of bicycle ergometry in Belarus
High diagnostic accuracy in detecting latent cardiac disorders. The ability to identify conditions that may not be evident at rest. Assessment of individual physical endurance and cardiovascular adaptation to exercise.
Belarusian medical centers are equipped with modern diagnostic systems that ensure high-precision stress testing. Experienced specialists guarantee patient safety and accurate interpretation of test results.
