Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is a method of prolonged monitoring of arterial blood pressure over a 24-hour period that allows detection of hypertension, hypotension, and hidden blood pressure fluctuations.

When is ABPM required?

In patients with complaints of headaches, dizziness, syncope, and blood pressure fluctuations. It is used in the diagnosis of hypertension, hypotension, and autonomic dysfunction. The method is applied to assess the effectiveness of antihypertensive therapy, detect nocturnal hypertension, and monitor cardiovascular system function. It is also indicated in suspected white-coat hypertension (stress-related blood pressure elevation in a clinical setting).

How is the examination performed?

A portable blood pressure monitor is placed on the patient, which automatically measures blood pressure every 15–30 minutes during the day and every 30–60 minutes at night. During the 24-hour period, the patient maintains usual daily activities and records symptoms in a diary. After completion of monitoring, the physician analyzes the data and provides a conclusion.

Main advantages of ABPM in Belarus

High diagnostic accuracy for detecting blood pressure variability. The possibility of identifying masked hypertension and assessing treatment effectiveness. Safety, convenience, and blood pressure monitoring under real-life conditions.

Belarusian medical centers are equipped with modern blood pressure monitoring systems that ensure accurate assessment of cardiovascular status. Experienced specialists analyze the data and provide recommendations for blood pressure management.
