Rectoscopy
Rectoscopy

Rectoscopy is an endoscopic diagnostic method that allows detailed examination of the mucous membrane of the rectum and the distal segment of the sigmoid colon. The procedure is performed using a specialized instrument called a rectoscope and is used to detect inflammatory, oncological, and functional disorders.

When is rectoscopy indicated?

Rectoscopy is indicated in cases of pain in the anal region, bowel habit disturbances, rectal bleeding, and anemia. It is used for the diagnosis of hemorrhoids, proctitis, polyps, anal fissures, and tumors. The procedure also helps identify inflammatory bowel diseases such as colitis and Crohn’s disease, as well as neoplastic changes. Rectoscopy is recommended during preoperative evaluation of colorectal surgery and for follow-up after treatment.

How is the examination performed?

The patient assumes a knee-chest position or lies on their side. After preliminary local anesthesia, the physician inserts a rectoscope into the rectum. The mucosa is examined, and if necessary, a biopsy is taken or therapeutic procedures are performed. The examination lasts approximately 5–10 minutes and may be associated with mild discomfort.

Main advantages of rectoscopy in Belarus

High diagnostic accuracy for diseases of the rectum. The method allows early detection of inflammatory and oncological pathologies. It is minimally invasive and characterized by rapid recovery after the procedure.

Belarusian medical centers are equipped with modern endoscopic devices that ensure detailed and reliable diagnostics of rectal diseases. Experienced specialists perform examinations with high accuracy and minimal patient discomfort.
