Enteroscopy
Enteroscopy

Enteroscopy is an endoscopic method for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the small intestine, allowing visualization of its mucosa and detection of inflammatory, ulcerative, neoplastic, and other pathological changes.

When is enteroscopy required?

In cases of chronic abdominal pain, bowel habit disturbances, unexplained anemia, and intestinal bleeding. For the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, polyps, and tumors of the small intestine. For the detection of occult inflammatory processes, strictures, and cysts. When tissue sampling for biopsy, polyp removal, or coagulation of bleeding sites is required.

How is the examination performed?

The patient undergoes sedation or general anesthesia. An endoscope is inserted through the mouth or rectum and advanced along the small intestine. In some cases, capsule enteroscopy is used—the patient swallows a capsule with a camera that takes thousands of images as it passes through the gastrointestinal tract. The procedure lasts from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the method.

Main advantages of enteroscopy in Belarus

High diagnostic accuracy for diseases of the small intestine. The possibility of performing therapeutic interventions (polyp removal, biopsy, hemostasis). An alternative to surgical interventions in the diagnosis of occult pathologies.

Belarusian medical centers are equipped with modern endoscopic equipment, enabling diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the small intestine with high precision and minimal discomfort for the patient.
