Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a highly accurate endoscopic method for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the bile ducts, gallbladder, and pancreas. The procedure combines endoscopic examination with radiographic contrast imaging of the biliary tract and the pancreatic duct.

When is ERCP required?

In cases of jaundice of unclear origin, pain in the right upper quadrant, and impaired bile outflow. For the diagnosis of cholelithiasis, cholangitis, and biliary strictures. For the detection of tumors, pancreatic cysts, and biliary obstructions. When removal of stones from the bile ducts or placement of stents in cases of narrowing is required.

How is the procedure performed?

The patient undergoes sedation or general anesthesia. A flexible endoscope is inserted through the mouth and advanced into the duodenum. A contrast agent is introduced into the opening of the bile duct, followed by fluoroscopic imaging. If necessary, the physician performs therapeutic interventions, including stone removal, duct dilation, and biopsy. The procedure lasts 30–60 minutes.

Main advantages of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in Belarus

High diagnostic accuracy and the possibility of treatment during the procedure. Non-surgical removal of stones and dilation of bile ducts. The possibility of stent placement in cases of narrowing, with minimal invasiveness.

Belarusian medical centers are equipped with modern endoscopic equipment, enabling diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to be performed with high precision. Experienced specialists ensure minimal discomfort and maximum safety of the procedure.
