CT of joints
CT of joints

CT of the joints is a high-precision diagnostic method that allows detailed visualization of bone structures, articular surfaces, cartilage, ligaments, and surrounding tissues. The method is used to detect traumatic, inflammatory, degenerative, and oncological joint diseases.

When is CT of the joints required?

The examination is indicated for chronic pain, limited mobility, and joint swelling. It is performed in cases of trauma, suspected fractures, dislocations, and ligament tears. CT of the joints is used for diagnosing osteoarthritis, arthritis, gout, osteonecrosis, and infectious joint lesions, as well as for preoperative planning, joint replacement surgery, and postoperative follow-up.

How is the examination performed?

The patient is positioned in a computed tomography scanner, where layer-by-layer imaging of the joint is performed (knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, elbow, etc.). In some cases, a contrast agent is used to improve visualization of inflammatory or tumorous processes. The procedure takes 10–20 minutes, is painless, and does not require special preparation.
