CT of the jaw is a high-precision diagnostic method that allows detailed visualization of the bony structures of the upper and lower jaws, teeth, joints, and surrounding tissues. The method is widely used in dentistry, orthodontics, and maxillofacial surgery.

When is CT of the jaw required?

The examination is indicated for jaw pain, suspected fractures, and inflammatory processes. It is used to diagnose caries, periodontitis, cysts, and other pathologies of the dentofacial system. CT of the jaw is performed to assess bone tissue condition before dental implantation, orthodontic treatment, and prosthetic procedures. It is also indicated for jaw injuries, deformities, congenital anomalies, and diseases of the temporomandibular joint.

How is the examination performed?

The patient is positioned in a computed tomography scanner, where layer-by-layer imaging of the upper and/or lower jaw is performed. In some cases, a contrast agent may be used to visualize vascular and soft tissue structures. The procedure takes 10–20 minutes, is painless, and does not require special preparation.
