Republican Scientific and Practical Centre «Mother and Child»

The State Institution “Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Mother and Child" is the leading medical institution of perinatal care in the Republic of Belarus. The Center offers a comprehensive range of medical services in the field of perinatology, including paid services for foreign citizens.

The Mother and Child Center provides an amazing opportunity for couples to become parents, even in complex clinical situations.

Since 2006, the Department of Family Planning and Assisted Reproductive Technologies has provided infertility treatment with the use of assisted reproductive technologies. Over 9 years of the department’s work, more than 5,000 cycles of assisted reproductive technologies have been carried out, 1,800 children have been born.

Since 2008, the Mother and Child Center has successfully performed fetal minimally invasive surgery, including:

• fetoscopic correction of antenatal fetal pathology;
• cordocentesis with intrauterine transfusion;
• chorionic villus biopsy in the first trimester of pregnancy (from 10 weeks 5 days to 13 weeks of pregnancy).

Women with high risks of pregnancy, severe obstetric, gynecological and extragenital pathologies, have had a chance to experience the joy of motherhood due to the help of the Center. For example, this year two patients who had undergone kidney transplantation in the past and 15 patients who had undergone plastic surgery and prosthetics of heart valves and chambers became mothers.

Special care is also provided to help safely prolong pregnancies complicated with premature rupture of membranes at 24-28 weeks of gestation.

Inpatient care is carried out in comfortable wards. Expectant mothers and newborns receive care and attention from the very first moments after delivery.

The Center’s genetic laboratory is equipped with advanced technology, which allows specialists to perform newborn screening, biochemical and DNA diagnostics of metabolic diseases, molecular cytogenetic and DNA research in the field of hereditary pathology, as well as comprehensive prenatal research and biochemical screening of pregnant women.

The Center also offers diagnostic programs for hereditary and acquired thrombophilia, tandem mass spectrometry, DNA diagnostics of the most common neuromuscular diseases, complex diagnostics of hereditary causes of male infertility, diagnostic programs for hereditary liver diseases, lifetime and prenatal diagnostics of lysosomal storage diseases, etc.

The Department of Medical Genetics of the Mother and Child Center carries out:

• computer-assisted diagnostic program SynDiag;
• diagnostic algorithms and medical-genetic counseling for congenital and hereditary diseases;
• algorithms for molecular cytogenetic diagnostics of chromosomal microrearrangements.

Following comprehensive examination and treatment, patients receive detailed recommendations for further preventive and maintenance therapy, lifestyle adjustments, prevention of disease recurrence, and maximum social adaptation.
