State Institution "Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery"

The Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery is a specialized medical institution of the Republic of Belarus providing advanced surgical care to children with congenital and acquired diseases.

The center provides care for patients from all regions of the country, as well as for foreign citizens. State-of-the-art medical technologies and clinical approaches in line with current achievements of world medicine are applied to carry out diagnosis and treatment.

The Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery began its work in January 2015. The institution was established on the basis of two medical organizations — a surgical center and a cardiac surgery center.

Today, the structure of the center includes two cardiac surgery departments, four surgical departments (planned surgery, emergency surgery, neonatal surgery, and purulent surgery), three anesthesiology and intensive care departments, two operating units, and an X-ray operating room. The diagnostic division includes a clinical laboratory, ultrasound diagnostics rooms, X-ray diagnostics rooms, and endoscopy rooms.

The Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery is an institution where the main types of surgical care for children, including cardiac surgery, are concentrated.

The center provides medical care in the following areas:

• pediatric surgery (general, thoracic, and emergency);
• neonatal surgery;
• pediatric cardiac surgery;
• endovascular surgery (minimally invasive treatment of a range of conditions in children);
• endoscopy (diagnostic and operative).

The center’s specialists perform surgical procedures for diseases of the thoracic and abdominal organs and also treat congenital anomalies, including:

• anorectal malformations;
• Hirschsprung disease;
• colonic atresia;
• bladder exstrophy.

Minimally invasive surgical techniques are widely used in clinical practice, helping reduce surgical trauma and shorten patients’ recovery time.

Pediatric cardiac surgery is one of the key areas of expertise at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery. The center’s specialists perform complex surgical procedures, including:

• correction of congenital heart defects;
• heart valve surgery;
• implantation of circulatory support systems and artificial heart ventricles;
• heart transplantation.

The center also performs high-tech reconstructive procedures, including:

• radical correction of Tetralogy of Fallot;
• Fontan procedure;
• Glenn procedure;
• Norwood procedure;
• Damus–Kaye–Stansel procedure;
• Ross procedure.

Modern extracorporeal therapy methods are used as part of the comprehensive treatment of patients with severe conditions and complicated disease courses. These include:

• hemodialysis (acute and chronic);
• plasmapheresis.
