The healthcare institution "Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital" is the largest multidisciplinary hospital in the region, providing highly qualified specialized medical care (emergency and planned) to residents of the Gomel region, the city of Gomel, as well as to foreign citizens.

The hospital has 23 specialized departments, a maternity hospital, an outpatient clinic, 12 modern treatment, diagnostic and auxiliary medical services, and a regional emergency medical care center.

The staff of the City Clinical Hospital have vast experience in providing specialized care for the patients. Neurosurgical department

Neurosurgical Department No. 2 (Department of Vertebrology and Spinal Surgery) was opened on October 1, 2015. In the Gomel region, the first spinal surgery was performed on May 20, 1980.

The department for 40 beds is located on the third floor of the main building of the Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital. The department premises were reconstructed in 2015 using the principles of a "barrier-free environment" for patients with limited mobility.

The department performs surgical interventions on all parts of the spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbar). Since 2013, hundreds of spine surgeries have been performed at the regional clinical hospital.

Surgical interventions performed in the department:

• surgical interventions for spinal fractures;
• surgical interventions for degenerative diseases of the spine;
• operations for tumors, inflammatory spondylopathy, congenital spinal pathology.

Surgical interventions are performed on patients in 3 spacious operating rooms equipped with modern high-tech equipment: two laparoscopic complexes (Karl Storz), an electric knife and electrocoagulator (Soring - MBC), an ultrasonic dissector for laparoscopic and open surgeries (Autosonix), an ultrasonic dissector for liposuction (Sonoca), a computer-assisted electrocoagulator for open and laparoscopic surgeries (LigaSure), which allows for minimally invasive and organ-preserving surgeries.

• the whole range of videolaparoscopic operations on abdominal organs;
• surgical treatment of thyroid diseases and congenital malformations (median and lateral cysts of the neck);
• modern tension-free and laparoscopic methods of surgical treatment of hernias of the anterior abdominal wall and diaphragmatic hernias;
• reconstructive surgeries on the stomach, bile ducts, pancreas;
• the whole range of minimally invasive interventions for varicose veins, including laser coagulation, miniphlebectomy, sclerotherapy;
• plastic surgery, including ultrasound liposuction of problem areas and abdominoplasty.

Urology department, department of remote shock wave stone crushing

The department uses modern methods of examination and treatment of urological pathology in both adults and children.

Every year, over 3,000 patients receive highly qualified treatment here, and about 3,000 operations are performed.

Urologists perform urological surgeries in full, including congenital pathologies of the genitourinary system. Minimally invasive surgical interventions are widely used in the department.

Thanks to the existing Litoskop installation, 70% of patients with urolithiasis are cured without the use of surgical interventions using the method of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL).

Doctors of the urology department completed internships in Germany, Japan, and Italy.

The department has 2 single enhanced comfort rooms.

The department was organized in 1970 on the basis of the 1st Soviet Hospital with 20 beds. Before this period, specialized beds were allocated as part of the neurosurgical department. Since 2002, the department has been headed by the doctor of the highest category V.I. Sannikov.

The team of the maxillofacial surgery and dentistry department specializes in the treatment of injuries, purulent-inflammatory diseases, congenital pathologies, and benign formations of the maxillofacial region.

Over the past five years, the department's doctors have prepared and published eight scientific papers and implemented three rationalization proposals. The latest methods of examination and treatment of patients with congenital pathology of the maxillofacial region, reconstructive operations on the bones of the facial skeleton are being implemented.

The department is the only one in the Gomel region.

Otolaryngology department

The department performs the following functions: providing planned and emergency care to patients, consulting patients in the regional outpatient clinic and hospital departments, and the department’s specialists provide telemedicine consultations to districts of the region.

The department uses modern medical equipment and facilities.

Every year, the ENT department treats 1,900-2,000 patients, performs over 1,500 surgical interventions (including cosmetic surgeries), and more than 100 high-tech operations.

The department provides planned and emergency assistance to foreign citizens.

Traumatology and orthopedic department

The department is designed for 70 beds, includes both standard wards and wards of increased comfort. There are two operating rooms, which are equipped with modern medical and diagnostic equipment and instruments.

The department also has an arthroscopic stand and an EOP (electron-optical converter), sets of instruments and implants for intramedullary osteosynthesis with blocking for surgical treatment of fractures of the femur, tibia and humerus, installation instruments for total hip and knee arthroplasty, as well as implants and special instruments for surgical treatment of pelvic bone fractures, electro- and endoscopic equipment.

Over the course of a year, the department performs more than 1,500 different types of surgical interventions, including about 250 hip replacements and more than 100 knee replacements.

The Department of Orthopedics, Traumatology and Military Field Surgery of the Gomel State Medical University was opened on the basis of the department. The doctors of the department have made and implemented more than 200 rationalization original proposals, many of which are, in fact, inventions.

6 patents for inventions (utility models) were received, formulas of 2 inventions were published, 2 monographs were issued: “Emergency and urgent care for severe pelvic injuries”, “Complex pelvic injuries. What to do?”. More than 150 works were published.

The doctors of the department have defended 1 doctoral dissertation, and 1 candidate dissertation is being prepared. The department employs 4 specialists of the highest qualification category in orthopedics and traumatology.
