In 1995, a center dedicated to the treatment of infertility was established in Minsk with the support of American colleagues from the Chicago Institute of Reproductive Genetics, led by its Director, Yury Verlinsky, together with one of Europe's leading medical geneticists, G. L. Tsukerman, Head of the Republican Medical Genetics Center, and L. A. Gud. Within a short period, the center became one of the leading institutions of its kind in the CIS region. In the same year, the physicians and embryologists of the Center, working alongside specialists from the Chicago Institute, introduced the ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) technique into clinical practice.

The specialists of the Center were pioneers when began their work in 1995. There were successes and challenges, achievements and setbacks, but thanks to the dedication of the specialists, the first child conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF) in Belarus was born in 1995. At that time, assisted reproductive technologies were not yet widely recognized as an important factor influencing demographic development.

On June 1, 2001, Leonid A. Gud founded the Embrio Center for Assisted Reproduction in Minsk. The center brought together leading specialists in infertility treatment and assisted reproductive technologies into one multidisciplinary team. Our greatest strength remains our highly qualified medical staff, many of whom have been working in assisted reproduction programs since 1994 and have gained professional experience in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, the United States, the Czech Republic, and Cyprus.
