2nd City Children's Clinical Hospital

The Healthcare Institution "2nd City Children's Clinical Hospital" is a multidisciplinary medical institution providing highly qualified specialized medical care both to the citizens of the Republic of Belarus, and foreign citizens on a paid basis. Republican Center for Children's Endocrinology

The center provides treatment and diagnostics of endocrine pathology of the child population, as well as patients with rare metabolic and genetic diseases. The department carries out a wide range of diagnostic tests, daily glucose monitoring with the help of a system of continuous measurement of blood glucose level.

Close integration of scientific research and practical experience, continuous implementation of new medical technologies, and continuity of care ensure a high standard of diagnosis and treatment of endocrine diseases.

Republican Center for Children's Urology

At present the Republican Center of Children's Urology includes:

• urological department with 60 beds;
• A consultative and diagnostic department (2 consulting rooms for urologists);
• an operating unit with 3 operating rooms.

Each year, more than 2,500 children from birth to 18 years of age receive qualified medical assistance in the department.

The diagnostic facilities of the department and hospital fully meet modern standards of pediatric urology. The examination of children is conducted with the help of state-of-the-art laboratory, endoscopic, urodynamic, ultrasound, functional, radiological, and X-ray equipment. The operating unit, as well as the anesthesiology and intensive care department, are equipped with modern endoscopic equipment, surgical instruments, and anesthesia and respiratory equipment from leading global manufacturers. This allows surgical interventions, anesthesia, and postoperative care to be provided to children of all ages with minimal risk.

The department offers a full range of conservative and surgical treatment for various urologic diseases. The staff of the center has accumulated vast experience in the treatment of malformations and diseases of the urinary system, using modern conservative and surgical methods. Many of the applied methods of surgical correction have been developed or improved in the clinic. The Urology Department performs complex reconstructive and plastic surgeries for congenital anomalies of the kidneys, bladder and external genitalia. In most cases endoscopic, laparoscopic and retroperitoneoscopic techniques are used for operations on the urinary tract.

The urology department has a urodynamics room. Urodynamic system Urolad is designed for diagnostics of lower urinary tract dysfunction.

The following procedures can be performed on this device: uroflowmetry, uroflowmetry with EMG, cystometry, pressure/flow study, profilometry.

The department also provides pelvic floor muscle training for children with urinary disorders.

More than 2,500 surgical procedures for various urological diseases are performed annually.

Republican Center for Children's Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy

In 2020, the isotope laboratory was modernized, with a new single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scanner installed.

The laboratory performs:

• dynamic nephroscintigraphy to study renal function in congenital developmental anomalies, after surgical treatment;
• static nephroscintigraphy to assess structural changes in renal tissue in acute and chronic renal pathology, as well as in the presence of various volumetric formations of the kidneys;
• thyroid scintigraphy, which is indicated in the presence of various nodular formations of the thyroid gland;
• Hepatoscintigraphy for diagnostics of liver, gallbladder and biliary tract diseases;
• osteoscintigraphy for early diagnosis of inflammatory and oncologic diseases of the bone and joint system.

Scintigraphy allows not only to determine the size and anatomical characteristics of organs (for example, the kidneys), but also assess functional impairment. The radiation dose associated with these studies is significantly lower than that of comparable radiological examinations, which allows the method to be safely applicable to young children. Accurate diagnosis enables physicians to select the most appropriate and effective treatment strategy.
